Choosing the blank

• Standard cotton around 5.3 oz is the classic event and team tee. Prints beautifully, wears hard, costs least.
• Ring-spun cotton at 4.3 to 4.5 oz is noticeably softer with better drape. The premium is small and it is the difference between a shirt worn on weekends and one that never leaves a drawer.
• Blends and tri-blends are softer again, heathered, with some stretch — the usual choice for spirit wear meant to feel like retail.
• Performance polyester for athletics, with inks chosen to resist dye migration.

If you want the shirt worn after the event, upgrade the blank before adding another ink color. It is the highest-return decision in the order.

How price actually moves

Screen printing carries a fixed setup cost per color and a low cost per shirt after that. Two levers drive the number: quantity and color count. Going from 24 shirts to 72 changes the per-unit price far more than most people expect, and every extra ink color is another screen and another pass. A clean one or two color design on a good blank almost always beats a busy six-color design on a cheap one, in both cost and appearance.

A back print counts as a second location, though for school and community fundraising the sponsor logos on the back frequently fund the whole order.

Sizing for different audiences

Youth sizing is its own curve, and ordering adult smalls for a middle school team is a common and expensive mistake. A general community or company audience skews toward L and XL with real demand above 2XL that buyers routinely underestimate. Tell us who is wearing them and we will suggest a breakdown rather than making you guess.

Always add a modest overage. Running short at an event costs more in goodwill than a dozen spare shirts cost in cash.

Shirts that get sold rather than given away

Booster and fundraising runs have a harder job than giveaways: the shirt has to be good enough that a family chooses to buy it. That means a softer blank, a design that works as a graphic rather than a logo with a date under it, and a size run covering both youth and adult buyers.

Artwork and deadlines

Send vector artwork — .ai, .eps or a high-resolution .pdf — and the job goes straight to production. A logo pulled off a website needs redrawing first, which is the usual reason an order runs late.

Standard turnaround is about two weeks from approved artwork. Rush is often possible, with blank stock rather than press time the usual constraint. Orange is about fifteen minutes from the shop, so collection is a genuine option when a date moves.
