High-visibility apparel in the United States is governed by ANSI/ISEA 107. The practical summary:

• Type R, Class 2 – roadway use where traffic moves at moderate speed, and the most common requirement for municipal, utility and site crews. This covers most of the hi-vis you see around New Haven.

Class is a property of the finished garment, determined by how much background fabric and retroreflective tape it carries. That is precisely why decoration is not a cosmetic decision.

Branding without breaking the rating

A logo that covers background material or interrupts a reflective stripe can take a garment out of compliance. Done properly, it does not. We place decoration so that the certified areas stay intact, keep heat-applied elements away from reflective tape, and size logos to fit the available real estate rather than forcing them onto a spot that costs you the rating.

Embroidery is common on hi-vis polos and jackets and holds up well. On mesh vests and on garments where stitching would perforate a technical fabric, heat transfer is the better route. If flame-resistant apparel is in scope, decoration must also be FR-compatible – ordinary thread and standard transfers are not, and we will source accordingly rather than guess.
